Pierre Bonnard exhibition at Tate Modern is a wonderful exhibition highlighting his wonderful use and exploration of colour. Visiting the south of France and noting the affect of light on colours, he began to paint with more orange, red and yellow and an overall heightened colour palette.
His colour palette was also guided by what he called 'the first emotion' prompted by the scene. and this would dominate the colour palette; decide one main colour and then build the remaining palette around it.
